Partnership- What is it about?

Partnership is a process of identifying with a community in another country so that, through mutual understanding and help we may in some way respond to the growing divide between so-called first world and third world countries

The historical connection between Kitui Diocese and Ireland goes back over 50 years, when the missionaries of St Patrick's Missionary Society first came to work in Kitui. There are many similarities between Kitui in the 21st century, and Ireland of 50 or more years ago, when we had predominantly rural/agricultural economy. Like Ireland in the 1940s and 1950s, the people of Kitui place great hope in education to build a better future.

Existing Partnerships-

  • Dalkey Parish partners Endau and Zombe Parishes in Kitui

  • Rathgar Parish partners Kyuso Parish in Mwingi district

  • Bray Parish partners Ikanga in southern Kitui

How it began

Friends of Kitui evolved from a simple partnership arrangement between the parishes of Dalkey in Dublin, Ireland, and the parish of Endau in Kitui, Kenya. The common link was through Fr. Paul Healy, originally from Dalkey, who spent nine years working in the Diocese of Kitui. But twinning does not- and should not- depend on any one individual.

On the Downloads page we include an article  by Brendan McNamara which discusses in depth one particular scourge- AIDS- which could be addressed through a twinning project. Also on the Downloads Page is  a document prepared by  Brendan on “What is involved in Twinning Parishes in Ireland with those in Africa”
