Water and other Projects
The
Committee for Makolongo and members of the Diocesan water
department at the newly constructed sub-surface dam (sand
dam) which was sponsored by supporters of Friends of Kitui
in 2007
Ngathano
sub-surface dam sponsored by Loreto School Dalkey
Members of
the womens group in Zombe parish at a meeting to kick-start
their Womens Empowerment project. This group, which has
already successfully started goat rearing and soap making
projects, will receive 20 beehives.
The
Committee at Musuoni well, sponsored by Transition Year at
Loreto dalkey (2006). The well was completed in February
2007
Water
remains the focus for the Diocesan interventions to improve
the livelihood of the people of Kitui
Sister May
and Francis, the farm manager, survey the Nguutani Parish
farm where sunflowers are grown. The parish has purchased
an oil-pressing mill to process the sunflower seeds.
Loreto
School dalkey present Fr Paul Healy with cheques for famine
relief and for the construction of a well.
A woman
breaks stones on a Kitui street. Many women have to carry
out this work in order to earn a few extra shillings to
support their families. It is usually the women who break
the stones used in the manufacture of concrete for
construction of sub-surface dams and wells.
