Endau Parish, Kitui, Kenya
|
| Endau Parish is on the eastern border of the Kitui district. It was to Endau
that Fr. Paul Healy first came as Parish Priest in 1999. At that time the
Catholic Mission of Endau had little or nothing in the way of infrastructure or
facilities. Over the following 3 years, Fr. Paul constructed a "Parochial
House"- a traditional round |
hut with thatched roof, then proceeded to
construct a second level school for girls- the Polytechnic. The first classroom
was built with funds raised by Castleknock College in Dublin. Funding from
Dalkey Parish provided sewing machines, a knitting machine, and other classroom
materials for the first and second-year students. |
| Dalkey also supported the
construction of a well to provide water for the Mission and the Polytechnic, and
a second classroom. The Mission now has a second well nearing completion, and the
current Parish Priest, Fr. Charles, has constructed a small two roomed house for
his own use. Fr Charles is very active in promoting small scale farming
activities for the parishioners, and is raising chickens and goats on the
Mission compound. |
His current plans are for the construction of a water storage
tank to collect rainwater from the roofs of the Mission buildings- again the
importance of water not only for use in the ordinary day-to-day activities of
the Mission and school, but also as a potential revenue generator because water
can be sold to raise funds. |
