Child Focus Africa is a community based non-profit making organization. It started in the year 2003

It was officially registered as community based organization (CBO) in the year 2005. It started as a result of  a big increase in the number of orphans, guardians and people living with Aids (PLWAS).

OVERALL OBJECTIVES

To empower disadvantaged children and their families to attain self reliance, through meeting their basic needs.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

 

ON EDUCATION:-

 

  1. Link students with educational institutions that support educational activities through bursary schemes.

  2. Identify and link students with individual well-wishers /donors who have a spirit of helping the needy.

  3. Empower parents from needy families to make use of the available local resources for education support.

  4. Identify, refer and follow up for special needs children.

  5. Organize social activities for youth.    

ON HEALTH:­

  1.   HIV/AIDS: creation of awareness, targeting community, schools and all institutions within our area of coverage.

  2. Counseling and testing.

  3. Form and sustain support group for PLWAs focusing on group therapy method to reduce stigmatization.

  4. Training of orphan's and PLWA care givers.

  5. Malaria control.

  6. Clean water.

  7. Nutrition for people living with Hiv/aids who are taking anti-retroviral drugs (ARV's) and orphans who are under 5 years of age.

  8. Look for and distribute second hand clothes (Mitumba)

OUR TARGET:­

Child Focus targets the following groups:  

  • Orphans in both primary and high school.

  • People living with AIDS (PLWAS).

  • Poor families with children in high school colleges regardless of whether parents are alive or not (The neglected people).

  • Special needs children.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Education and Employment:

  • Managed to link 95 students with institutions, Non-governmental organizations and individual people willing to support Education of  poor children.

  • Helped 2 Students who completed secondary education and even joined Universities, Colleges

  • Helped 6 Students who completed training and were employed as Primary School Teachers

  • Several others got employed in different companies and even self employment.

Health

  • Started a Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centre (VCT) for those who are concerned they might be HIV positive

  • Formed a support group for the PLWAs

  • Psychological counseling.

  • Strengthened the referral system among PLWA

  • Education on malaria

  • Nutritional support

OUR APPROACH

  1. Collaborate with NGOs

  2. Organise fund raising harambee

  3. Introduce the status of needy child to the Principal of the school  in which the student is to be admitted.

  4. Forward the needy cases to the area MP for Community Development Fund (CDF) Bursary

  5. Form an Education group for the neglected/forgotten parents who do not fit into any other support category.

  6. Proposal writing

  7. Classify Orphans, Special needs and Vulnerable children into categories for support

CHALLENGES  

  • Limited number of Education Sponsors despite increasing number of orphans requiring support.

  • Poverty index is already low, and yet the country’s  economy is decreasing

  • Limited funds to sustain other useful programmes like VCT and Home Care.

  • Some orphans qualify to join National Schools where we are not able to meet the costs, and many sponsors fear to assist children in high cost schools

  • Limited availability of transport to visit people at their own homes during follow-ups.

  • We are unable to pay permanent staff and instead we rely on volunteers.

  • No reliable source of income.

  • This is a very tasking service on our volunteers

CURRENT  PLANS

 

  • Source Funds to put up a dormitory in AIC Special Unit schools.

  • Solicit Funds to pay bursary fees for 16 orphans in secondary school.

  • Source Funds for 31 children in High school who are from Disadvantaged families

  • Source funds to maintain a support group for the people living with AIDS

  • Collaborate with other non Governmental organization and donors to meet all the above needs
